Terms of Service

Effective 24 August 2026 · Last updated 25 August 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Roam & Board. The most important part is the section on what the campsite data actually is — please read that one even if you skip the rest.

1. Who you are agreeing with

Roam & Board is operated by Josiah Cloud, a sole proprietor doing business as Roam & Board, in Colorado, United States. "We", "us" and "our" mean that person. "You" means you.

By using the site or creating an account, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

2. You must be 18

Accounts are for adults. You confirm that you are at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. We will close any account we learn belongs to a minor.

3. What Roam & Board is — and what it is not

Read this before you drive anywhere

Roam & Board is a planning aid. It is not an authority on where you may legally camp, drive, park or light a fire, and it is not a substitute for the agency that manages the land.

The listings are assembled from public agency records, OpenStreetMap, and our own research. They are incomplete, they go out of date, and some of them are wrong. A site appearing in the app is not a statement that camping there is legal, permitted, free, open, or reachable in your vehicle.

Specifically, and without limiting the above:

Before you travel, verify with the managing agency: call the local ranger district or field office, check InciWeb for fire restrictions, and consult the current Motor Vehicle Use Map for legal motorised access. Roam & Board is not affiliated with the USFS, the BLM, or any government agency.

4. Outdoor risk is yours

Dispersed camping and backcountry travel carry real risk of injury, property damage and death — from weather, terrain, water, wildlife, fire, vehicle failure and absent mobile coverage. You are solely responsible for judging your own skills, your vehicle, your equipment and the conditions, and for complying with every applicable law and land-management rule.

You use anything you find through Roam & Board entirely at your own risk.

5. Your account

Accounts are created and secured through Clerk. Keep your credentials to yourself; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at roamandboardcamping@gmail.com if you think someone else has access.

You can delete your account at any time from the account panel. Deletion is immediate and permanent — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is removed.

6. Roam & Board Pro

$4.00 per month, or $35.00 per year · billed by Stripe · renews automatically until cancelled

Pro unlocks the additional features described on the upgrade screen at the time you subscribe. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn as the product develops; if a change materially reduces what Pro provides, we will tell subscribers in advance.

Billing

Payment is taken by Stripe on a page hosted by Stripe. We never receive your card details. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price until you cancel. We will give notice before any price change affecting your renewal.

Cancelling

You may cancel at any time, with no questions and no retention process. Cancelling stops the next charge and keeps your Pro access running to the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refunds

Payments are non-refundable. Because you can cancel at any moment and keep the access you paid for, we do not refund partial or unused periods.

If something has genuinely gone wrong — you were charged twice, a feature you paid for did not work, or you were billed after cancelling — email us and we will put it right. That is a commitment, not a formal refund policy.

If a payment fails

Stripe will retry a failed payment for a short period. Pro access continues during those retries. If the subscription ultimately ends, Pro features switch off and your account reverts to the free tier — your saved data is not deleted.

7. What you contribute

Notes, trips, custom pins and community road reports are yours. By submitting them you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and display them for the purpose of operating the service — which, for road reports, includes showing them publicly, to anyone viewing the site whether or not they have an account. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

You confirm that what you submit is yours to submit, is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not infringe anyone's rights.

8. Community road reports are not verified

Road reports are written by other users. They are not checked, moderated in advance, or confirmed by us, and they may be outdated, mistaken or deliberately false. Treat them as one camper's opinion, not as current road information. We may remove any report at any time, and we are not responsible for reliance on them. Reports stop being shown 90 days after they are posted, because a road described in spring tells you very little about the same road in August.

9. Acceptable use

Do not: submit false or malicious reports; scrape, bulk-download or resell the data; attempt to break, overload or circumvent the service or its rate limits; use the service to break the law or to damage public land; or submit content that is unlawful, harassing or infringing.

10. Affiliate links

Roam & Board participates in the Amazon Associates programme. Gear links are affiliate links: we earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. This is disclosed on-screen wherever those links appear. Commission does not affect which sites are shown or how they are ranked.

11. Availability

This is a small independent project. The service is provided as-is, with no guarantee of uptime, and it depends on third parties — Google Maps, Clerk, Stripe, Cloudflare, OpenStreetMap — whose outages will take parts of it down. We may change or discontinue features at any time. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give paying subscribers reasonable notice and stop billing.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service and all data in it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the data is correct, current or complete, or that any listed location is lawful, safe or accessible.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service — including any injury, property damage, citation, fine or loss arising from travelling to a location found through Roam & Board.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or twenty US dollars, whichever is greater.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Josiah Cloud, doing business as Roam & Board, against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the service, your content, or your breach of these terms.

15. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or that is being used to harm the service or other users. Where a paid account is closed for reasons other than a breach by you, we will refund the unused portion of the current period.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date above changes, and signed-in users are notified in the app before material changes take effect. Continuing to use the service afterwards means you accept the new version. If you do not, close your account.

17. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree that any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and each of us consents to the jurisdiction of those courts.

18. Everything else

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the service. You may not transfer your account or these terms to someone else without our agreement.
